To help address congestion issues during rush hour on I-35, KC Scout installed six metered ramps between the Missouri-Kansas state line and 75th St. They will be up and running later this summer.
Two metered ramps are in Merriam – at 67th St. southbound and at Johnson Drive northbound. The other metered ramps are located at 18th St. southbound, Southwest Blvd. southbound, 7th St. Trafficway/U.S. 169/Rainbow Blvd. southbound and northbound.
KC Scout, a traffic management center jointly operated by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Missouri Department of Transportation, said the metered ramps were placed at these locations based on community feedback and traffic data.
KC Scout said the metered ramps should help decrease the “sudden weaving and braking moments that happen when vehicles merge onto the freeway” during rush hour.
Crews are periodically testing the meters, and they will be fully implemented in late summer.
